Our child has been working with Guy since the winter of 2019. Guy is awesome at redirecting a child when needed. His speech assignments for the home are in game format and we love them. Our child doesn’t even realize she is working! He is very gracious in explaining everything he is doing and seeing.

Guy Garcia has been quite magical for our 6 year old son who has Autism with Apraxia! He is nonverbal, but Guy has been working with our son for a couple of months and has got him to say more words. My son can now greet me when I come home from work and say Hi Papa, which before he could never do!

So grateful to have found 1to1 Kid Talk speech therapy for our 4yo autistic son. Since he started at-home speech therapy with Guy, we have seen so much improvement. We have learned tips and techniques that have greatly improved our family’s ability to communicate. From the first session we saw how even small changes in the way we interact with our son had a positive effect on his engagement level with us. Guy also keeps the sessions fun, so when our son sees him his face lights up.

Mr. Guy worked with my child on his stuttering. We had six weeks of therapy and have seen tremendous progress. Mr. Guy’s approach was efficient, and my child responded beautifully to his techniques and strategies.

I met my son’s speech Teacher Guy Garcia when my son started elementary he was his first speech teacher back in 2008/2009. My son is considered a severe stutterer and Guy always encouraged him and helped him in anyway that he could. Stuttering as most people know is a speech impediment that not all speech teachers know how to address. We had lost touch with Guy for a while and just this year my son who is now 18 started falling in a downward spiral of not being able to control his stuttering and it was making him depressed. By a miracle Guy happened to call at exactly the right time. He advised me to have my son watch the movie “When I Stutter”. It helped him tremendously and Guy said he would see him and help him master the techniques shown in the movie. He has made my son do a 180 and just feel more in control of his speech. His patience and sincere caring about his progress is priceless.

Using his 20 years experience of successfully treating over 1000 children with communication disorders, Guy Garcia developed the Easy Talking Toddler self-study course to give busy parents the tools they need to help their children achieve the best possible chance of success at connecting and communicating with those around them.

Guy is a state and nationally licensed speech-language pathologist. He has been awarded the ACE Certificate from the American Speech-Language Pathology Association multiple times, served on an advisory board for the Arizona Department of Education and acquired multiple advanced training certifications for pediatric speech therapy. He has both an undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and master’s degree in Communication Disorders from New Mexico State University.

Why Does Easy Talking Toddler Work?

Guy Garcia’s journey to create Easy Talking Toddler started with his own career as a professional speech language pathologist for 20+ years and his experience of successfully treating over 1000 children. But when his own son was born with a language delay and diagnosed as a “late talker.”  Guy decided to use what I’ve learned his professional life to help his son.  Not only that, he decided to take another look at the research and do a deep dive into toddlers and “late talkers.”  “I’m excited to report that there is more and better science towards understanding how babies learn to talk and how we can harness their natural abilities to teach words than we knew even 5 years ago. Toddlers do learn in systematic and predictable ways and as a parent you can use this knowledge to speed up learning.”

18-24 months

  • Know and use at 50 -100 common words
  • Combine two or more words to form simple phrases (e.g., “more apple”)
  • Verbally ask for help
  • Able to follow two-step directions (e.g., Get your shoes and bring them to me)
  • Use possessives like “mine” and “Mommy’s”
  • Use personal pronouns, such as “me” and “you”

It’s important to remember that not all words and speech will be clearly understandable at this stage.

2 to 3 years

  • Combine words more often into 2 and 3-word sentences
  • Verbally ask for your attention (i.e., “Watch me, Mommy!”)
  • Respond with their first name, if asked
  • Pluralize some words
  • Ask simple questions like “Why?” and “Where’s Daddy?”
  • Answer simple questions like “Do you want the apple or the banana?”
  • Correctly make most vowel sounds as well as pronounce b, d, h, m, n, p, and w in words

At this age, speech should be clearer but may still be difficult to understand for someone who does not know your child.

3 to 4 years

  • Compare objects with simple adjectives like “smaller” or “longer”
  • Tell stories
  • Use location words correctly (e.g., outside, under, etc.)
  • Pretend to read, write, and spell
  • Pronounce all of the syllables as well as the beginning, middle, and end sounds of words
  • Use pronouns like “a” and “the” when referring to objects (e.g., the ball)
  • Correctly pronounce the consonants f, g, k, t, and y in words

Most people should now be able to understand your child most of the time. Your child should be speaking more smoothly and not repeating sounds or words the majority of the time. Some sounds do take longer to develop (e.g., j, l, r, s, v, z, ch, th, and sh) in many cases, and you do not need to worry if your child still makes mistakes in pronunciation.
