Late Talker Evaluation

It’s not uncommon for parents to worry about their child’s development. After all, several parenting books and websites inform you of every milestone your child should be hitting as they grow from a newborn up through their teen years.

But it’s important to understand that each child is unique and develops at their own pace. Just because another child in your neighborhood is talking non-stop doesn’t mean your child will be a late talking toddler.

However, we realize that you have concerns, and we are here to help. Our Late Talking Evaluation is fast and easy and can determine whether your child shows signs of delayed speech.

Here is how it works:

Our speech-language pathologists (SLPs) use parent report instruments (see below) and interviews to screen your child to diagnose language delays. They will work with you to develop an improvement plan and monitor your child’s progress.

The Late Talking Evaluations include measures for four age ranges:

8 to 18 Months

The CDI and Gestures Form is a comprehensive assessment tool that allows parents to document their child’s understanding of basic vocabulary and provides separate indexes of the words the child understood and the words produced. In addition, the parents record nonverbal gestures their child has tried or completed.

16-30 Months

The CDI Words and Sentences Form is used to document the child’s words, their early attempts at grammar, and provide written examples of the child’s three longest sentences.

30 to 37 Months

The CDI-III is a short, single-page assessment tool that measures expressive vocabulary and grammar.

3 to 6 years

The CELF-Preschool-3 is a clinical tool that can be used to identify, diagnose, and evaluate language and communication issues in preschool-aged children. The CELF-Preschool-3 looks at a child’s language skills in the following areas:

  • Core language
  • Repetitive and expressive language
  • Expressive language
  • Language content and structure
